NSNA 65th Convention 2017, Dallas, TX
Written by Brittany Davies-Morris, Vice President
This year, the annual NSNA Convention was held at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas! Upon arrival, we hit the ground running! We began each day with an NCLEX mini review session, which helped us become more prepared for what to expect on test day and quizzed us on material using NCLEX style questions. Throughout the day, many group members participated in focus sessions; the content of these sessions ranged from what to expect your first year out of nursing school, how to write a resume, and interview skills to trauma nursing and women’s health speakers. We were also able to roam the exhibit hall in our free time, looking at potential Bachelor’s, Master’s programs, and DNP programs, as well as mingle with professional organizations and hospitals like UCLA Medical Center. Some of our students were able to attend the American Red Cross Disaster Training and received special certification in disaster health preparedness!
As attendees of the NSNA convention, we had a very important role as delegates. Our appointed delegates spent time in meetings listening to proposed resolutions, hearing the debates of both sides, and analyzing if said resolutions would be ideal for the nursing student community to support. Then, in the House of Delegates, we were able to vote on and pass certain legislation into the bylaws of NSNA.
The Value of Convention

I had such a great time at CNSA and am so grateful to have been able to attend the convention. I was able to have my resume reviewed and critiqued by a professional nurse with over 15 years of experience as part of the hiring team in California hospitals. The guest speakers were amazing and had a plethora of priceless knowledge regarding the future of nursing and where we as students needed to focus. I also volunteered to be a delegate for our college and had the opportunity to attend several CNSA board meetings where I was able to vote for our very own Thomas Ward in the elections where he won as president. This was a very proud moment!
My First Convention

This October I had the opportunity to attend the California Nursing Student Association (CNSA) state convention. The convention was held in Pomona, Ca at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel and nursing students/faculty from all over the state of California were in attendance. This convention was a fantastic experience for all who attended, multiple university representatives were present to offer information about their programs and answer any questions. In addition to the college representatives, there were guest speakers that offered support and guidance on how to jump start and succeed in a Nursing career; there was even a station where students could get their resume critiqued by a professional. Overall, the CNSA convention was a fantastic experience and I would encourage all to attend to the next one!
